Okay, so I had a day to spend with Kristin. Did that mean just today or 24 hours in total? Of course I was hoping for the 24 hours, because I would love to spend more time with her. The second thing was, what was I going to do? Shopping for sure, I mean who wouldn’t go shopping with Kristin Chenoweth when they have the chance? We could go see a movie. But that would include being silent for an hour or two. I didn’t want to sit in a cinema and not talk to Kristin. Oh, but then we could always rent a video! So then we could go shopping for food too, I could bake!
“Mo, you’re zoning out again” a voice said from beside me. “Oh, I’m sorry! I was just thinking about what I wanted to do today. I really want to go shopping right now and watch a movie or something later on.” Then a thought struck me. I looked at Kristin with a devious grin. She caught me looking and lowered her sunglasses “Oh no. What are you smiling about, what are you thinking?” “You’ll see”. A quick glance at my watch told me we still had plenty of time.
We entered a street full of shops. We both looked at each other and went oooh. I squeed and looked at the first shops. Shoes! “Come on! Let’s go in here” I hardly had to drag her in to the shop, she was more then happy to follow or even pull me in. The shop had a sweet flower fragrance, I guess to cover up the smell of all the sweaty feet of customers. It smelled of roses and cinnamon. As we were trying out some shoes, I overheard the conversation of two girls “come on Kat, they’re just shoes! Let it go!” Kristin and I looked at each other and giggled. She had heard it too. “Kat, please, they’re not really ballerina shoes, you can’t dance on Pointe on them!”
A little drawer opened in my memory file cabinet. Kat... Ballerina… Shoes? I turned around quickly to the brunette and her friend “Kat?” She turned around surprised at hearing her name. It took her about 4 seconds to go from surprised to ecstatic “Mo?” I ran to her and we basically jumped up and down the store “Mo, what are you doing here in New York?” I cast a quick glance at Kristin, who was keeping back a few steps. “I won a free four day trip to New York. How cool is that?” Kat nodded her head in excitement “True that is very cool! Now you get to go shopping and we finally meet in real life!”
I suddenly remembered something “oh, and another thing” I motioned Kristin to me with the wave of my hand. Kristin came towards me. “We don’t have to do anything drastic, like selling our bodies, to meet Kristin” I said laughingly. Kat laughed first at the memories of our desperate plans to get money in order to see Kristin, but then she looked at my blonde friend. Kristin was looking at me with utter shock. “Would you remove your sunglasses for me? I would like to introduce you to a fellow Glitterite” Like in a slow motion scene, Kristin removed her sunglasses and shook her hair out. Kat looked absolutely pale; all the blood had drained from her face. “Kat, meet Kristin Chenoweth, Kristin meet Kathleen, my friend who lives in Canada!”
Kat just gaped at Kristin and she in return gave me a stern look “what do you mean, you were gonna sell your bodies to see me?” She had put her hands on her hip to look intimidating, but all I could think of was Sally Brown. As a result of that, I started laughing, so did Kat. “Oh, ha-ha, I’m sorry Kristin, ha-ha. It was a joke between me and Kat. We were talking about how we both didn’t have any money and we desperately wanted to see you. So we came up with some plans, like rob a bank or become a prostitute. But, then I figured, if we would tell you we sold our bodies to see you, you would be mortified.” I hiccupped with laughter. Kat wiped the tears from her eyes “the look on your face was priceless, Kristin. But we were only kidding, we would never really do that.”
Kat and I said goodbye as we walked out of the store “thanks again for introducing me to Kristin, it was a blast!” I gave her a quick hug “Anytime Kat” and we parted our ways. Kristin replaced her sunglasses “She seems like a really nice kid”. I couldn’t agree more, Kat had brought a lot of fun in my life. A lot of people from Glitter had. It was a wonderful place, indeed. Suddenly Kristin stopped at a pet store, literally dragging me inside. “Oh, I just have to stop here; I just saw the cutest thing ever!” She walked over to a doggie clothing rack. She was going to buy something for Maddie, of course. “Kristin, where is Maddie anyway?” She popped her head over the banner “Oh, she’s being spoiled at a spa today” Oh, lucky dog! “Can I meet her? I would really love to hold her.”
I walked over to the cat section of the store, perhaps I could buy some toys for my cats, perhaps I could also buy something nice for my dogs. I looked up at the clothing line; something for my Jack Russell would be very sweet. “Kristin, you have experience in doggie clothing” I popped my head around the corner and saw she was looking at a few pink hats, matching hats for dogs and owners. I could already hear Sophie groaning, I had to remember to tell her. She was just trying on a hat when she looked up at me “Do I? I guess I might have, just a little.” “Oh come one, look at all the adorable clothes you buy for Maddie! The corset, the sweaters... you have an awesome taste in doggie clothing!”
Ten minutes later we walked out of the store. Kristin had bought one of the pink hats for Maddie and was wearing the bigger version of it on her head, her hair tied up underneath it. I was holding a bag with a few cat toys and the cutest doggie jacket ever. “So you have a dog?” Kristin seemed to have a twinkle in her eyes at the mention of having a dog. “Well, back at home with my parents, we have three Jack Russels. We started with a rough haired female, Tessa. Then when she had her second litter we kept two dogs. One is mine and the other sort of belongs to my mom.” She smiled “what do they look like? I love small dogs!”
I took a picture out of my wallet “This is Tessa, the mother of the other two dogs. She’s a rough haired Jack Russel, also known as a Broken Coat. Then my dog, Frodo, is a long haired Jack Russel, same colours as his mom, but he has curls and is just the cutest thing ever! He’s really energetic and he loves to play.” Kristin burst out laughing “Frodo? His name is Frodo?” “Yes, his name is Frodo; he’s a total Hobbit among the Jack Russels. He’s really small, has curly hair, loves to eat and have fun and has very hairy feet” That made her laugh even more “that does sounds like a Hobbit!” I could only nod “And the third one, Scoundrel, is smooth haired and is mostly black and white, with a few brown spots here and there. Even tough his name is Scoundrel, he has anxiety problems. He’s terrified of being left behind too” It was so stupid that I didn’t have a picture of Frodo and Scoundrel.
We were walking a long some shops, mostly looking at the windows, when I heard my stomach rumbling. “Are you hungry?” Kristin asked, looking at my stomach. I scratched my head in embarrassment “hehe, yeah I guess I am. I haven’t eaten yet today.” “But you were up since 6? You hadn’t ordered food at the hotel?” Oops. “Well, I’m not really a morning eater, eating before 10 makes me nauseous, so I rather not eat. But then you appeared in my room and we left at 10 and then I just got so caught up that I simply forgot.” Kristin gave me a look of motherly disapproval “we will get you some food now, sweetie. You shouldn’t skip breakfast. Let’s go to IHOP, there’s one on 34th street”
I felt so lucky, not only did I get to spend a day with Kristin, but I got to eat at one of her favourite restaurants! And I could die for a good pancake. Water was running in my mouth and I had to swallow before I could speak again “you know, I always wanted to go to IHOP. Being from the Netherlands, we are sort of famous for our pancakes. We make the best pancakes in the world!” Kristin didn’t seem impressed really “Wait until you eat at IHOP and we’ll talk again” Sounded like a bet to me. “I hop, you hop. We all hop for IHOP” I started singing softly, but I stopped when I noticed some people on the street looking at me like I was crazy. “Ugh”
The restaurant looked like any other diner. Just not really what I expected. I must have looked disappointed because Kristin asked me what was wrong “I was expecting something more authentic, I guess, like a 50s diner or something.” We sat down at a table and ordered a coke and the menu. The menu was amazing; I was practically drooling on it. “O my god! This menu… I can’t decide!” I heard a snicker coming from behind the other menu “I know, right? I always have a hard time choosing.”
We decided we would go for Rooty Tooty Fresh ‘n Fruity and the Stuffed French Toast Combo. I can only say I would have liked to try everything on the menu. Looking at the clock, I noticed it was just after noon. “I could have sworn we have been spending the whole day together already, it’s only been two hours” Finishing the last bit of her coke, Kristin nodded “It feels like I have known you for years. You are very easy to talk to, very fun to hang out with.” I beamed at her “thank you! That means a lot to me. Some people from Glitter, that I talk to, have said the same thing to me. Cara, Megan, Tee, Kat… We would have been talking for a few days and it feels like we’ve known each other for years!” I reached out and placed my hand on hers “And all because of you. If it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t have made so many great friends. Thank you, Kristin. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Because I knew you I have been changed for good.” We looked at each other, both with tears in our eyes as she squeezed my hand. “Thank you sweetie, that means so much to me, more then you realise perhaps.”
