They got out of their chairs and took the three steps towards the isle and their friend. Kami reached for the guy’s neck. She held her breathe and waited for that one sign that the man was still alive. After several seconds she breathed out.
“This guy is dead. Let’s get him of Alex.”
Kaylea nodded and grabbed the dead guy’s arm. She pulled with all she could. The small sound from behind them startled her and she released the arm. Both girls turned around quickly and looked at the front of the plane. Two dark figures moved through the smoke. They heard muffled talking and coughing. Kaylea looked at Kami.
“What should we do?”
Kaylea sounded frightened. Kami shrugged.
“They are survivors, just like us. Perhaps they can help us getting this guy off of Alex.”
The two figures came closer. Kaylea recognized them from before and sighed in relieve.
“Excuse me! Guys, could you help us? Our friend is under this dead guy, but he’s too heavy for us to lift.”
The first guy quickly moved forward and grabbed the dead guy’s arms. He lifted the man up without any problems. Kami stared in wonder at the bulging of the guy’s muscles. Surely it took something out of him to lift a full grown man who was a dead weight, no pun intended. The guy dropped the dead man on the floor between the seats. Alexandra’s body came in to view. Blood plastered her hair to her face. A nasty looking cut seemed to ooze blood in a steady stream. Without being asked to the guy ripped a piece from his shirt and wrapped it around Alexandra’s head.
“That should keep the wound from bleeding too much, for the time being.”
Water was lapping at their feet. The other guy was limping towards the door. He opened one of the overhead lockers and took out the boat that was inside. He opened the door and threw the boat out.
“Come on, the plane is sinking. We can’t do anything else here.”
The muscle man pushed Kami and Kaylea towards the door.
“Go! I’ll carry your friend out.”
Kami looked back at Alexandra and then at the guy.
“So she’s not dead?”
The guy shook his head, while Kami and Kaylea quickly grabbed their things out of the overhead compartments
“She’s not dead, but she’s unconscious which is serious enough at the moment. The thing is to get everyone out as soon as possible.”
Kami nodded her head and shuffled through the thick smoke towards the door. The water was getting higher. It wouldn’t take long before they wouldn’t be able to get out. She suddenly saw the first aid kit drifting in the water and made a grab for it. She threw it on the boat and then jumped in herself.
