They had been bobbing along on the waves of the ocean. The sun was burning hot and pressing down like a giant blanket. Mark had played doctor to everybody; he seemed to be the only one not badly injured. It was a good thing he had done First Aid in school. He knew that Oliver had twisted his ankle and had taped it up accordingly. Kami had a piece of glas in her hand. Oliver had held her hand still, while Mark had taken the glass out and looked for more wounds, but except for a few bruises she, was fine. Kaylea seemed to be mostly in shock. She had a nasty gash on her arm, which probably needed a stitch or two. Mark had but a bandage on it with antiseptic and stuck it to her arm with tape.
“That hurts.”
Kaylea bit her lip so she wouldn’t groan. The baby was fine as well. It seemed the mother had given her live to save her baby. Jamie had broken his wrist and with the help of Oliver, they were able to set the wrist and tape it in with two pieces of wood from the First Aid Kit. They had created a simple sling with the baby blanket so Jamie didn’t have to use his arm much. The only problem seemed to be Alexandra. Like Kaylea’s wound, Alexandra’s head wound needed stitches, but they didn’t have any needle or thread; so he had cleaned the wound and put a bandage one it with antiseptic and then wrapped bandage around her head to keep it in place.
“I feel like Rambo.”
They had all laughed at the joke, but they also knew that Alexandra had one more injury and that she wouldn’t let Mark look at it. Everybody seemed to be sleeping, except for Alexandra and Oliver. Oliver scooted over to her side, so he could sit next to her.
“Why won’t you let Mark look at your injury?”
Alexandra looked at him and felt her face turn red. She looked the other way, out over the ocean.
“I know what’s wrong, but I’m too embarrassed to show the whole boat...”
Oliver looked her up and down. There was no blood on her shirt, so that couldn’t be it.
“What is it then? I can’t find any visible sign of a wound.”
Alexandra looked at him and swallowed the lump in her throat. She quickly glanced at the others to see if they were still sleeping. She started pulling her shirt out of her jeans. Oliver gave her wide eyes and a confused look.
“Oh please, I’m gonna show you why I didn’t want to flash the boat, okay. Nothing more.”
She whispered the words in a semi angry tone. Since she couldn’t take the shirt out all by her self, because she was in such pain that tears had rolled down her cheeks, Oliver had decided to lend her a helping hand. He took the edge of the shirt and started pulling it up. He gently pushed Alexandra against him so he could get the back of the shirt out as well. Alexandra stiffened in his arms, more colour creeping up her face.
