Kaylea heard faint voices. She was searching for more wood for the fire and had stopped in her tracks when suddenly heard voices. She couldn’t make out much of what they were saying, but one sentence drifted towards her on the wind.
“What do you think, you dope? You just took off my shirt!”
The words echoed in her ear. There was no doubt about it that it had been Alexandra’s voice. And she had gone of with Mark. Why was Mark taking of her shirt? A little voice in her head told her she should stomp out in to the clearing and demand an explanation. She almost had done just that, but another little voice had held her back. If they wanted to be together, shouldn’t they be allowed? Just because she had a thing for Mark, wasn’t Alexandra allowed to like him too? He seemed to like her back. But just as quickly as doubt had set in, it washed a way in a wave of anger,
“No. Mark is mine!”
She hissed the words between her teeth and stomped her way back to the camp. She would show them. She would tell Oliver as well. She knew for sure Michael saw something in Alexandra, all though she couldn’t tell what that was. Alexandra wasn’t that pretty, was she? What did they see in her?
“Well, at least Jamie doesn’t seem to be infatuated with her.”
Kaylea rolled her eyes and cleared the edge of the jungle. She dumped the twigs and branches next to the fire, giving both Jamie and Kami a startle. She looked at Michael.
“Michael, you and I need to talk.”
She glanced at Kami and Jamie.
“In private.”
Michael stared at her and motioned to his foot.
“I can’t stand without any help.”
Kaylea glared at Kami and Jamie until Kami got the hint.
“Come one Jamie, I think we should make ourselves scarce here.”
She grabbed him by the hand and pulled him to his feet. They half walked, half ran away from the camp. Kaylea watched them go and then plopped down next to Michael, who was rocking baby Kerry gently from side to side. They had turned the baby bag in a temporary baby bed until they could find something better.
