The others watched the couple disappear in to the distance.
“How long will it take before he starts laying a hand on her?”
Kami asked in an annoyed tone. Alexandra sighed.
“I’ll give him ten minutes. I just wish he wasn’t such a flirt. If we want to survive this place, we need everyone to take their roles serious. We need to put survival first, fun second.”
The guys agreed with the girls.
“Jamie, Kami, since both of you have an injured hand, I thought it would be best if you go in search of food. You both take a backpack with you so you don’t have to carry it all in your hands.”
Jamie and Kami nodded and both emptied out a backpack in to another one.
“Take your book with you Kami, just in case you find some roots or berries and you’re not sure. I wouldn’t want you to get a rash or poisoned by accident.”
Kami made a little O with her mouth and nodded. She quickly took her book out of her own backpack and stood up. She gave Jamie her other hand and pulled him up.
“We’ll walk to the right of the beach. Follow our tracks from yesterday. See if we can find some food. You need anything else?”
Alexandra looked at Oliver. Did they need anything else?
“Make sure you get some bananas. We can squish them and feed them to the baby.”
Oliver mentioned to Kami.
“Oh, see if you can find strips of bark from trees? Maybe I can turn them in to rope when they are dry.”
Alex waved her hand around while talking excitedly, giving her weird looks from the others.
“What? I saw it in a documentary once. I just want to try it. All you need to do is rip the bark of trees, you know, so you get the strips.”
Kami gave her a quizzical look.
“Can’t we just use vines?”
Alex sat back down again.
“That might work as well.”
Kami sniggered and turned around. She hooked her backpack on her back and headed off. She was sure Jamie would follow her.
“We’ll be back as soon as possible.”
