Mark was searching for Kaylea. He was sure he had heard her scream and it seemed to come from this side.
“Kay, can you hear me?”
He pushed some bushes aside and saw her shoes; he jumped a log and landed next to her. She was lying lifeless on the ground.
“Not good.”
He knelt down beside her and took her wrist. Her pulse was beating slow and steady. So she wasn’t dead. He looked around. There were no sharp objects, so she hadn’t banged her head on anything. He picked up her arm and inspected it; his fingers trailing her skin, searching for any wounds. Nothing. He inspected her other arm carefully, but didn’t find any wounds. He checked her head. She had a bump on the back of her head, but no serious wounds. He checked her neck. Nothing seemed out of place. His fingers trailed lower over her collar bone and shoulders. He touched her ribs gently.
“If you cracked your rubs too, there won’t be enough bandages to tape you up.”
Luckily for her, her ribs seemed fine. He checked her hip bones for any fracture, but found none. When his hands were trailing up her leg, a dark figure jumped out of the bushes and crashed in to Mark. Mark gave off a loud scream as the figure and he flew through the air. They fell backwards on the ground.
“Don’t you dare touch her, you bastard!”
Mark was confused right now. He covered his face with his arms to ward off the blows he was receiving.
“Kami, is that you?”
He peeked through his arms at Kami, who was being lifted off of him by Jamie. Kami looked absolutely furious.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?”
Mark was getting angry now. He hadn’t done anything to deserve this. Kami struggled to get away from Jamie, but he had her arm locked around her arms, so she couldn’t use them.
“We are out there in the jungle and we hear Kaylea scream. When we find her, you are looming over her, touched her in places you are not even allowed to get near.”
Her voice was heavy with anger, her cheeks flushed and her eyes had that dark colour eyes get when a person reaches a certain level of anger. Mark sat up and held his hands up.
“I didn’t do anything; I was just checking her for wounds. I found her lying like this, so I was worried something had happened.”
Kami stopped struggling and Jamie released her.
“You promise that?”
Kami demanded. Mark held his hand up.
“Scout’s honour.”
