Alex sat on the ground and was throwing stones across the road.
“Stones! Why didn’t I think of that before?”
She sat up on her knees and looked around for a nice sized stone. When she found one, she tried to tie the vine around it. This was easier said than done; she found out when the stone fell out of the single knot for the third time. She sat there trying to think of a new way to make sure the rock wouldn’t slip.
She unwrapped the bandages from her head and bound them around the stone. She made sure the two endings were long enough to tie them up with the vine.
“Let’s hope this works.”
Alex stood up and started swinging the stone around. When she thought she had enough speed, she released the vine and the whole thing swung upwards. It hit the branch and fell back to earth.
“Ha! It works. Now I just need to make sure I can actually wrap it around the stupid branch.”
She took a step back and tried again. After five tries the stone finally wrapped around the branch. Alexandra tugged on the vine to make sure it was secure.
“Alright, now what?”
Alex grabbed the vine and wrapped it around her hands twice. She braced her self and pulled as hard as she could. Nothing happened.
“Stupid branch!”
She stepped under the branch and jumped up to grab the vine higher. She flinched when she felt her ribs stretched.
“Okay, that was a bad idea”
She groaned. Alex didn’t give up though, she would get that branch down if it was the last thing she did.
“Perhaps it’s just too thick on this side.”
She stepped further away from the tree; the wrapping sliding with her. When it had reached a thinner part of the branch, she pulled down as hard as she could. The branch bent and cracked. Alexandra grabbed the vine higher and pulled harder. The branch snapped and came tumbling down. Alex screamed and ran away; the branch missing her by a hair.
