Jamie and Kami were using the leaves and bamboo, that Alex had brought back, to make a little cage. They used the vine to stick the bamboo shoots together and soon they had a little box like shape. The lined the box with leaves until they were sure that nothing could fall out.
“See, Kami, you can make cages. I always knew you could.”
Kami shook her head and looked at Jamie.
“I just made the shoots equally long and tied the vine around it. You are the one that knew where to put what. Don’t give me credit for something you did.”
Jamie bumped her with his shoulder and smiled.
“Let’s say we did it together.”
Kami nodded and looked at her bamboo box. It wasn’t much more than a few sticks tied together, but it would do nicely to keep their fruit in. She took some of the fruit out of the backpacks and placed it in the box.
“We found some herbs on the island. We’ve got some camomile, some nettle and some calendula?”
Kami knew that Alex had always been interested in plants, so she’d probably know how to prepare them too. She took out a ball of string form the sewing kit and started tying the herbs up in little bundles.
“What are you doing?”
Jamie asked with interest. Kami glanced at him and stood up.
“I’m letting them dry here. Although I’m sure I need a dark place for that. But, since we don’t have a house yet, I can’t do much else then to hang them around here.”
Jamie made a little O with his mouth and stared at Kami. He was quite impressed with the information she seemed to have on surviving an island.
“Have you been in this situation before? I mean, have you ben stranded before?”
Kami glanced over her shoulder and raised an eyebrow.
“You think I would be so unprepared if I had been stranded before? I’d at least have made sure I had more things in my backpack that would help with surviving. So, no, I haven’t been stranded before. But I used to go camping when I was younger.”
